ARTISTS OF WALL TO WALL HONG KONG 2013

ALEX HORNEST

Alex Hornest

Sao Paulo. Alex Hornest’s work is inspired by cities and their inhabitants – the interaction between the two. These urban themes are reflected in a playful and introspective way.

For our WALL TO WALL Hong Kong Project, Alex has chosen Longhua Theatre in Tsuen Wan as his canvas, hoping to produce a fresh creation at this most marginalized local area and form interaction with its inhabitants.

BUFF DISS

Burline. Buff Diss purposely decided to stop using spray paint a few years back, instead he now uses masking tape as his sole medium to create his truly unique art, treating the city as his canvas.

This time he has chosen the Y-Platform of Youth Square in Chai Wan and Central Terminal as his spot to interact with this venue and also Hong Kong. Intrigued by the mix of old and new, past and present of this seaside city, Buff has decided to use ocean and voyage as his theme.

CHARLES MUNKA

Hong Kong. Charles Munka was born in France and is now living in Hong Kong. Here he absorbs his surroundings and sees them as ever-changing spaces encoded with place, time and history. He is both an accomplished painter and street artist; this is reflected in his gestural brushstrokes, use of composition and his subtle manipulation of color.

Having lived in this city for a while, this time Charles has decided to use a commercial building in Central as his canvas. Skilled at re-creating intercepted symbols, he’ll reconstruct the symbols and logos from that building in order to remind viewers of the neglected beauty hidden under such a seemingly ordinary sight of Hong Kong.

IDT

Shenzhen. The IDT Crew, including NAN, SINIC and YYY, is a graffiti art group from Shenzhen, China. Through multi-media expressions, they bridge the gap between visual aestheticism and the messages behind their works, which truly bring graffiti closer to pure art.

The various alleyways of Hong Kong are most suitable for graffiti to thrive, and the IDT members have chosen Tai Ping Shan Street as their canvas. They hope its artistic atmosphere will allow them to fully liberate their inspirations among those independent galleries and small shops. Bearing in mind their motto – “Think out of the box”, they intend to view Hong Kong as a big fish tank where they can break free from.
